Maine Medicine Educational Summit: Keynote Presentation by Nirav Shah, MD, JD
The Maine Medical Association is pleased to welcome Nirav Shah, MD, JD, as the 2026 keynote speaker for the Maine Medicine Educational Summit, MMA’s 173rd Annual Session.

In his keynote presentation, The Future of Health Care and Public Health in Maine, Dr. Shah will examine the challenges facing today’s health care and public health systems, explore potential policy approaches to strengthen care in Maine, and consider these issues within the broader national landscape.
An attorney, economist, and physician leader, Dr. Shah brings a unique perspective shaped by leadership at both the state and national levels.
In 2019, he became Director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, where he helped rebuild the agency and laid the foundation for Maine’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In recognition of his leadership, he was appointed Principal Deputy Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, serving as the agency’s second-in-command. He has since returned home to Maine and served as a visiting professor at Colby College.
As health care continues to evolve, physicians are navigating increasingly complex clinical, public health, and policy challenges. Dr. Shah’s keynote will offer timely insights into the forces shaping the future of medicine and public health, while exploring opportunities to strengthen the health of Maine communities.
Join colleagues from across Maine and beyond for our keynote and a weekend dedicated to practical education, physician leadership, and meaningful professional connection.
