Supporting the Health and Wellbeing of Youth in Maine Foster Care

Children and adolescents in foster care often experience disruptions in healthcare continuity, making coordinated medical oversight essential. This session will highlight current approaches to supporting youth in care, including the updated Comprehensive Health Assessment (CHA) toolkit developed by the Maine Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, improvements to portable health records and access to prior medical information, and the role of primary care and psychiatric medication providers in psychotropic medication oversight and informed consent. Participants will gain practical tools to support safe, collaborative, and informed care for youth in foster care.
